For the first time in its long and successful history, the Ramsey High School Boys’ Soccer Team has brought home its first Bergen County Championship title. Saturday’s match up against Ramapo High School resulted in a 1-1- tie, and a shared Championship title with the Raiders.
The Rams and Raiders finished as co-champions with a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtimes of the final. This is only the second time the championship ended in a draw, and the first since the 2006 season.
By the numbers: This season has been incredibly successful for the Rams, building on decades of top-notch performance from this program. Current and historical accolades include:
Record is 15-0-2
Ranked #1 in North Jersey, Ranked #3 in the State
12 shutouts this season
Three consecutive Group 2 North 1 state sectional championships; the program has 9 total (the first, and my personal favorite, came in 1997 😉)
Back-to-back state championship game appearances.
One state championship in 2007
What they’re saying: “We are extremely proud of our boys capturing our program’s first ever Bergen County Championship. It is an extremely tough tournament and they should be very happy with their achievement. I am thankful for our assistant and volunteer coaches - their dedication to the program and our kids is second to none and they make a huge impact in the success of our kids on and off the field. Lastly, we are thankful for our parents and soccer community. Their support throughout the season has made our game environment incredible fun. Especially this past Saturday, we had an amazing turnout and support.” - Head Coach, Cesar Blacido, RHS Boys’ Soccer
