What's happening: Over the Summer, Smith Library Media Specialist, Ms. Kasey Kelly, worked as the Logistics & Day Program Director for the Great Books Summer Program at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California!

The Great Books Summer Program is a Literature & Writers Workshop program held on University campuses internationally for middle and high school students. The program’s philosophy is rooted in the Shared Inquiry Methodology of Socrates and shares in Ramsey’s own values of Critical Thinking, Empathy, Creativity, Communication, and Academic Mindset.

  • Students from around the world come to this program to engage in daily college-level humanities seminars as well as meet weekly with visiting guests ranging from Neuroscientists, Pulitzer Prize Winners, Ivy League professors, and prominent figures in Broadcasting, Film,Television, Publishing, and more.

  • One of the special guests was Dr. Robert Reich - an award-winning Professor of Political Science and Philosophy at Stanford University, author of System Error, Where Big Tech Went Wrong and How We can Reboot, and current Senior Advisor for the United States AI Safety Institute to “enable a thriving world through safe AI innovation.”

RR

Dr. Reich speaks about the role of AI in higher education admissions, the effects of AI in our lives, and his vision to “Advance AI research, education, and policy to improve the human condition.”

Why it matters: Ms. Kelly was able to connect with educators from around the country to gain new insights and strategies for best practices in the classroom and practice her own Critical Thinking and Analytical skills with a variety of diverse literature offered in the program’s courses.

What they’re saying: “Being an administrator for the Great Books Summer Program at Stanford University this year was such an enriching experience! I highly value the opportunity to grow as an educator as it is my personal belief that we as human beings should strive to be life-long learners. It was wonderful to get to share the culture of readers, writers, and thinkers that we are building in Ramsey with a global community such as Great Books.”- Ms. Kasey Kelly
