What's happening: Tisdale School principal Mrs. Aliano developed an innovative program fro her students called “Community Meetings,” which kicked off last week with amazing success.
Community Meetings are weekly gatherings where students and staff come together in a group setting to discuss topics that will equip students with essential life skills and strategies for making good choices, both in and out of school.
Why it matters: Community Meetings aim to address social and life skill challenges often seen in school settings such as apologizing with sincerity or the use of tools to resolve conflicts. During the first meeting of the school year, first graders discussed “How to Apologize.” Led by special area teachers and facilitated through creative activities, students learned through role playing, art, music and demonstration through a puppet show.
What they’re saying: "Seeing the Community Meetings in action today was truly heartwarming. Our teachers have taken this concept and transformed it into something magical for our students." - Mrs. Gina Aliano, Tisdale School Principal
What’s next: Future Community Meeting topics will include sharing, respecting differences and managing emotions. They will serve as a shining example of innovative education in action. 💙
