Lexi

What's happening: This past summer, Smith School 8th grader, Lexi Jacobsen had an unforgettable week at the AAUW Tech Trek camp, held at Stockton University. This program aims to inspire and empower young women to explore careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

For the 2024 curriculum, participants could choose from three exciting tracks: Robotics, Art in Motion, and Biotechnology. Lexi opted for Robotics, where she and her peers built and programmed a robot to navigate an obstacle course, merging creativity with technical skills.

In addition to robotics, campers engaged in a variety of activities, including creating lip gloss, tie-dyeing, and participating in esports.

  • A highlight of the week was a field trip to the Federal Aviation Administration, where the girls learned about aviation careers.

  • They also had the opportunity to dine with professional women in various STEM fields, gaining valuable insights into potential career paths.

Throughout her time at camp, Lexi met many inspiring peers and enjoyed the experience of living in the dorms, fostering friendships and building a supportive community. The AAUW Tech Trek not only equipped her with hands-on skills but also ignited her passion for a future in STEM.
